Process development

Process development is the systematic design, optimization, and scaling of manufacturing processes used to produce a biopharmaceutical product from early-stage research through to GMP-compliant clinical and commercial manufacturing. It encompasses upstream process development (cell culture, fermentation, seed train optimization), downstream process development (purification, formulation), and analytical development, with the overarching goal of establishing a robust, scalable, cost-efficient, and regulatory-compliant manufacturing process.
