Biosafety level (BSL)

Biosafety level is a set of biocontainment precautions required to isolate dangerous biological agents in an enclosed laboratory or manufacturing facility. BSLs range from BSL-1 (minimal risk agents) to BSL-4 (life-threatening agents with no available treatment), and determine facility design, personnel protective equipment (PPE), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
