Autologous refers to biological material — such as cells, tissues, or molecules — derived from and administered back to the same individual. In the context of cell and gene therapy, autologous approaches use the patient's own cells as starting material, minimizing the risk of immune rejection and graft-versus-host disease (GvHD).
