An antibody (also known as immunoglobulin, Ig) is a Y-shaped glycoprotein produced by B cells of the adaptive immune system in response to foreign antigens. It is composed of two heavy chains and two light chains, with antigen-binding sites at the tips that enable neutralization or destruction of target molecules.
